One of our absolute favorite community events each year is Free Comic Book Day and Touch-A-Truck hosted by Alter Ego Comics in Downtown Lima. If you've never been we've asked the man himself, store owner Marc Bowker for his list of tips and tricks to make the most of your first experience!
How does Free Comic Book Day work? Visitors can choose up to 5 different free comic books per person. They can choose 2 more free with a donation to charity - Comic Books for Kids, which delivers comics to kids in hospitals and cancer centers. What else is going on? Touch a Truck is an opportunity for kids and adults to get up close with a variety of trucks, including safety services vehicles. This part of the event runs from 10 AM until Noon. Artist Alley, featuring area artists and craftspeople, will be set up from 12:30 - 3:00 PM
Should I dress up? Absolutely! Visitors are encouraged to wear their best costumes and to take pictures with our costumed characters - The Heroes 4 Hope.
Are there any special sales going on that day? Of course! Our Bi-Annual $1 Comic Book sale, a half price graphic novel sale, and a fully reloaded Clearance Section! Don’t forget to sign up for our free Rewards program where every purchase counts towards future discounts. How do I get the full Free Comic Book Day experience? Get in the line early and start talking to the people around you - friendships are made on this day! Once you’ve gotten your free books, check out the inside of Alter Ego and find something you can’t live without. Once you head back outside, experience both Touch A Truck and Artist Alley. Finally, visit other Downtown Lima shops. There’s something for everyone on Free Comic Book Day! For additional info on how to spend your day in and around Lima click HERE.
