With the outbreak of COVID-19, many people’s summer plans have been put on hiatus. Events and celebrations have been cancelled. Many amusement parks and attractions have been closed. Even as some places have started to open up, unnecessary long-distance trips and flights are generally being discouraged.
Those who decide to make longer trips anyway may have to spend 2 weeks in self quarantine afterwards. That can be a steep price to pay.
However, that doesn’t mean you need to let the summer months pass you by. Instead, you should just look a little closer to home. Regional trips and weekend getaways are quickly growing in popularity, providing a safer, more affordable alternative to extravagant summer vacations.
If you’re in the state of Ohio or Indiana, the Lima area is a great place to visit! Despite many of our usual summer events not happening, there is still something for everyone.
Exploring the Great Outdoors
Want to get away from civilization? Ohio’s parks and recreation areas are open to the public. The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District in Lima offers 1400 acres worth of activities and exploration. You’ll find plenty of hiking trails, perfect picnic spots, biking paths, and more. While the beaches are currently closed due to COVID, the amphitheater is open, providing a variety of live entertainment.
In addition to the Johnny Appleseed Metro Parks, Greater Lima has countless other parks and waterways for games, relaxation, fishing, camping, and more. Click here for a list of all your options.

Many of the local restaurants and bars are still hosting nightly activities as well, ranging from local live music to karaoke to line dancing, and more. After a day of exploring and seeing the local sites, you’ll find a lot of ways to cap off the evening.
A Great Place to Stay
